When the beginning of December comes around, Miami goes into full-on artistic hyperdrive. And Wynwood, as the #CreativeCapital305, is the place to fully experience Miami Art Week, taking place in 2024 from December 2 to December 8. Night and day Wynwood’s got it, from forward-leaning galleries to the coolest museums, from outdoors and on-the-street art, to special events.
Yes, there’s Art Basel across the pond, of course, but Wynwood shines with its on-point local Miami feel that also reaches out with steady international appeal. And when you need a break, Wynwood’s just got so much more, including unique local retail, elevated award-winning dining and hand-held tasty bites, late-night hangs and great entertainment.
Those in the know always make Wynwood an important stop on their Miami Art Week itinerary. Its main artery, NW Second Avenue is the neighborhood’s “main street,” but hidden treasures, guilty pleasures and a thriving street art and graffiti scene can be found throughout its more than 50 square blocks. It’s a time and a place for serious collectors, art-world shakers, and the general culturally hungry public to sample the best of Wynwood and its thriving arts scene.
On tap will be art fairs, events, and programming from local leading art institutions and galleries. Wynwood-specific Art Week highlights for 2024 include:
– Wynwood is the place for the official Miami Art Week Pop-Up Show on December 7 and 8 at The Miami Art Week Gallery. And don’t miss photoMiami, the only photo-centric photography show, in the same space.
– Fairs Spectrum Miami and Red Dot Miami will return to MANA Wynwood Convention Center, from December 4 to 8, covering more than 150,000 square feet of indoor exhibition space.
– Goldman Global Arts will be featuring work on the Wynwood Walls for Miami Art Week, including the art of Carlos Mare, with special events all week. And don’t miss a pre-Week very special launch event on November 29 for Jessica Goldman Srebnick’s new book Street Art Icons, published by Assouline.
– Art of Hip Hop presents Cey Adams, Departure: 40 Years of Art and Design, a career-defining retrospective exhibition celebrating the artistic contributions of this visionary artist. The exhibition opens to the public on December 4.
– Museum of Graffiti‘s 5th-anniversary exhibition opens December 4 and features the pioneering work of OG Slick, an artist whose influence on graffiti, street culture, and contemporary art has reverberated globally for over three decades. The exhibition will include culinary F&B pairings courtesy of Cook Unity and Paso D’Oro, with musical performances curated by Rolling Loud.
– The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse’s new exhibition, focusing on the decades from 1930-1970, includes works by John Chamberlain, Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell, Roy Lichtenstein, Cy Twombly, Louise Nevelson, Jackson Pollock and other contemporary masters. Opens December 2.
– The Gary Nader Art Centre will be the home of the Latin GRAMMY® Academy Collection: 25 Years of Music and Art, a landmark exhibition that includes work from artists Romero Britto, Walter Goldfarb and Michael V. Rios, as well as memorabilia from Latin music icons such as Emilio Estefan, Laura Pausini, Gustavo Cerati and Joe Arroyo.
– Ralph Pucci International will mount Primal Mysteries, an exhibition of Plasterglass sculpture, inspired by heroes from the worlds of sculpture and painting, and with an earthy, contemporary feel.
– Paradox Museum features over 70 illusion-based exhibits, including their latest, Zero Gravity, and from November 29 to December 2, 2024, use promo code BF20 to unlock 20% off of tickets.
– Wynwood Marketplace is hosting HIVE, a Culinary & Cocktail Village, produced by Swarm from December 5 to December 9.
Other notable Wynwood galleries and arts centers include Aliona Ortega Fine Art, Art Fusion Galleries, Gerez Gallery, Harold Golen Gallery, Lelia Mordoch Gallery, Lina Cerrone Fine Art Gallery, Oliver Cole Gallery, Private Gallery, The Wall Art Gallery, Wolberg Studio and University of Miami Art Gallery.
What makes Wynwood an even more outstanding Miami Art Week destination is its deserved reputation as a foodie paradise, with popular restaurants such as Doya, Pastis, KYU, Maman and Coyo Taco. There are also unique and boutique local shops to enjoy, including Base Superstore, Wanitta, Mejuri, Congo Clothing Company, OFY, and Adoratherapy (which has a special Art Week Pajama Party). And for a little of Wynwood’s famous nightlife experience, R House, Gramps and Cerveceria La Tropical are great places to check out.
