Wynwood Chefs among Beard Award Semifinalists & Nominees

The 2018 James Beard Award Nominees are in! Among the list of incredible chefs and restaurants are Wynwood’s very own Zak Stern and Brad Kilgore.

Zak Stern of Zak the Baker is a semifinalist in the “Oustanding Baker” category. Stern has a unique passion for bread and tremendous respect for the baking process. His commitment to using the highest quality ingredients and ability to execute flavors has earned him a spot for the second year in a row on the semifinalist list.

Chef Brad Kilgore leads award-winning Wynwood restaurant Alter, named one of the best new restaurants in America by Eater. Food & Wine’s Best New Chef for 2016 serves seasonal cuisine that focuses on locally-sourced ingredients, highlighting the rich seafood, fruits, vegetables and meats of Florida. Kilgore has been nominated twice before for “Rising Star of the Year.” This year, Chef Kilgore is the only South Florida chef to advance to the finals. He is a nominee for “Best Chef: South.”

The Wynwood BID congratulates both chefs for this distinct honor! Winners will be announced at the 2018 James Beard Awards Gala on Monday, May 7, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
