Daniel Fila (Krave): The Visionary Behind El Mono Fresco
Daniel Fila, better known as Krave, is a Miami-based artist renowned for his murals, sculptural reliefs, and paintings that blend various mediums and techniques. With a career spanning nearly two decades, he has established himself as a pivotal figure in Miami’s urban art scene.
Early Life and Artistic Journey
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Fila’s passion for art began in childhood, sketching relentlessly. While attending Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH), he was introduced to urban culture and street art, themes that would heavily influence his future work. He later earned a B.F.A. from Columbus College of Art and Design, one of the nation’s most respected private art institutions.
Fila’s early career saw him freelancing as an illustrator, while simultaneously exploring his own artistic vision through street art. His breakthrough came with Erin, a 13-foot nude mural in the Miami Design District that sparked public controversy when it was partially buffed by an anonymous passerby.
Signature Style & Iconic Works
Fila is best known for his character, El Mono Fresco, a recurring motif in his work that embodies his playful yet edgy aesthetic. His large-scale projects include "The Wynwood Silos", and his art is featured throughout Miami, particularly in Wynwood and Little Havana, where his project space, "El Fresco", serves as his creative hub.
His work has attracted major brands and collectors, including filmmaker Michael Bay, who featured The Sunbather in the movie Pain & Gain. His commissions extend to hotels, developers, and private collectors, where he creates custom murals, framed prints, and immersive art installations.
A Leader in the Art Community
Beyond his own work, Fila is a mentor and collaborator, contracting dozens of local artists annually to bring large-scale projects to life. His ability to blend fine art with street aesthetics has cemented his reputation as one of Miami’s most influential urban artists.
With a career rooted in innovation, controversy, and cultural impact, Krave continues to shape Miami’s visual landscape, proving that street art is both powerful and timeless.
