Q: What inspired you to create Scooter Steves?
A: Honestly, I started Scooter Steve’s out of frustration. The initial concept behind Scooter Steve’s was service. About five years ago, I saw a real gap in the industry – there was a lack of quality customer service. I wanted to offer a place where people could feel taken care of without being nickel-and-dimed. So, I focused on delivering top-notch service, and that’s what’s driven the business from the beginning.
Q: Why did you choose to open your business in Wynwood, and how has the community responded to your presence here?
A: We found a location here in Wynwood just to test the waters. It was a slow opening process but we had a lot visitors. Within our first two years, we did very well, providing quality service and expanding our reach. The community here has embraced us, and it’s been amazing to see how the area has evolved as we’ve grown.
Q: What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in launching and growing your business, and how have you overcome them?
A: We actually opened the business a year before the pandemic hit, and it was challenging, for sure. But we kept going, providing the best service we could. During the pandemic, we saw a lot of artists looking for opportunities, so we started collaborating with them to create custom hand-painted scooters. That’s something we still do today, and it’s been a huge success. Some of these custom pieces have even ended up in showrooms and celebrity homes around Miami.
Q: How has the electric vehicle industry impacted your business?
A: We originally focused on gas-powered vehicles, and that’s still our main focus. But we noticed the popularity of electric vehicles increasing and saw an opportunity to further our growth. Now, we’re not just selling electric scooters; we’re also involved in commercial projects like ride-sharing and installing scooters in apartment complexes and government buildings. It’s been a great way to expand our business and serve both locals and visitors.
Q: As Scooter Steve’s was voted “Miami’s Best Scooter Shop” by the Miami New Times, what’s next for the business?
A: We are very ambitious here at Scooter Steves and we continue to do great things. We’re always thinking ahead. One of the next big things for Scooter Steve’s is disaster recovery. We’re working on providing foldable homes to disaster zones along with scooters and bikes. Just another way of providing quality service all while expanding our reach. Beyond that, we’re venturing into media, a clothing line, and exploring new tech like food delivery robots. We’ve got a lot in the works, and we’re just getting started.
