Leal Bistro strives to bring the comfort of a home-cooked meal into their restaurant experience.
Leal Bistro
Each month, we spotlight a few members of the Wynwood business community to share their unique story and concept. In this profile, we asked the founder of Leal Bistro, Edgar Leal, to tell us more about his family-owned restaurant.
Business address: 2700 North Miami Avenue, Miami, FL 33127
Tell us a bit about your business – the concept, what you sell and what makes you unique.
Leal Bistro is a family-owned restaurant that serves comfort food through casual and easy-going dishes from savory to pastry options, as well as full wine service.
My wife and I have more three decades of experience as trained chefs and were recognized as Miami’s rising star chefs in 2004. Mariana received her culinary training from L’ecole de cuisine Ferrandi in Paris and has worked with renowned chef Joel Robuchon. I attended The Culinary Institute of America in New York and worked under Ferran Adria at the world-renowned El Bulli.
Why did you choose to open your business in Wynwood, as opposed to another Miami neighborhood?
Wynwood’s extensive collection of street art and art galleries made it an attractive location to be home to Leal Bistro. We’re so happy to call Wynwood home, starting with our restaurant and even sending our son to the neighborhood’s local charter school.
What does a typical day at Leal Bistro look like?
At Leal Bistro, a typical day involves patrons enjoying delicious food, wine and a great selection of music – varying between Jazz and Latino funk. Guests will experience countless smiles, fun personalities, and a great dining service.
What’s your favorite Wynwood spot to visit?
We love all of the craft beer options in the district. Our favorites are Wynwood Brewing and Veza Sur Brewing Co.
