URBAN RUBEN
Ruben Gerardo Ubiera Gonzalez, born October 19, 1975, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, is a neo-figurative artist renowned for his graffiti-inspired style, bold lines, and urban aesthetics. His work encompasses murals, mixed-media pieces, and installations crafted from reclaimed objects, reflecting his deep connection to urban life. Raised in the Bronx, New York, from age 15, Ubiera’s artistic vision draws heavily from the graffiti culture that surrounded him, shaping what he calls "urban-pop" or Postgraffism—a refined evolution of street art.
Eschewing traditional canvases, Ubiera uses found objects as his medium, believing that art, like life, has no boundaries. His vibrant works capture the raw energy of cityscapes and human emotion, blending sharp lines, vivid contrasts, and a touch of youthful rebellion. Infused with social commentary and intricate details, his pieces reflect the interplay between humanity and the urban environment.
Ubiera describes Postgraffism as an elevated form of graffiti, where concept takes precedence over technique, bridging the gap between raw street art and refined visual experimentation. Through this lens, his art becomes a dialogue between man, machine, and soul, pushing the boundaries of urban creativity.
