SUMMARY:Daily Paper x Van Gogh Connects Pop-Up
DESCRIPTION:Amsterdam-based streetwear label Daily Paper has partnered with Van Gogh Connects\, a research program from the Van Gogh Museum which seeks to promote inclusivity and connect the work of the Dutch artist with diaspora youth in Amsterdam. The collection\, titled Daily Paper x Van Gogh Connects\, is the first of a 2-part collaboration\, with the second line expected to launch the following year. Taking inspiration from the work of the classical Dutch painter\, the collection fuses Daily Paper’s eponymous style with selected drawings and fine-art paintings. \nThe collaboration will bring together diverse communities from the fashion and art worlds\, with a collective purpose in mind – celebrating the work of one of the most iconic classical Dutch painters\, whilst recognizing the importance and impact of multicultural youth. \nThe merging of two Dutch institutions stands\, in this instance\, for much more than an art-meets-fashion collaboration. The collaboration is not only a gesture of creative expression\, but also acts as a bridge between two diverse institutions—classical art and youth culture—in order to forge a stronger and more accessible relationship between the two. \nThis first capsule collection will contain 16 items—across both RTW and accessories—and is considered to be one of the most anticipated collections of 2020. The collection will be unveiled at Miami Art Basel\, with the official collection launch at a Daily Paper takeover of the Van Gogh Museum\, Amsterdam. \nHours:\nMonday – Saturday: 12pm – 7pm \nSunday: 12pm – 6pm

SUMMARY:Woke Up On Fire I Anthony Lister
DESCRIPTION:Robert Fontaine Gallery\, located in the heart of the Wynwood Arts District\, will showcase new works by artist Anthony Lister\, in a solo exhibition during  Miami Art Week / Art Basel\, titled\,  “Woke Up On Fire”  The opening reception will be held Wednesday\, December 4th from 7 pm to 10 pm The exhibit will be on view November 28 through December 8th. \nWoke Up on Fire\,  an exhibition of 15 large scale paintings explores the artist’s ongoing interest and romance with the Myths and the cultural significance of Super Heroes.  In Lister’s newest body of work\,  the artist captures the human connection\, and our collective fascination with Heroes and Villains; good and evil\, and the power they hold metaphorically.  Comprised of bold gestures\, drips\, smears\, and comic book colors the painted subjects float on stark white backgrounds as if to be idealized like historical figures hanging in the halls of powerful institutions.   The canvases include a type of iconography\, relating to each mythologized figure. The words and poetic language compositionally float on the canvas\,  giving the viewer a raw glimpse into the artist’s thinking\, and creative process of working and reworking\, mapping the painting\,  shaping the identity and developing the narrative. These verbal markers are like that of a surgeon’s notations on human skin\, or a mad scientist whose thoughts of an idea run unstoppable across a chalkboard as a stream of thinking toward an ultimate place of clarity and resolve.\nLister’s paintings are both developmental and academic\, poetic\, yet fundamentally in flux.  The larger than life body of work stands as a testament to the overall narrative that has greatly defined the artist’s identity and his own mission as a solid force in the contemporary art world.\n_____________\nFor me….these paintings hold fifteenth-century folk-law warnings and mystic superstations of the ancient world. In the other\, one finds one’s self slapped with pop puzzle lashings. Visually wet\, dripping and hyped-up on neon flavored cereal as Saturday morning cartoons scream out about a confused moral fortitude.  These paintings were made during the ad break. DESCRIPTION:Robert Fontaine Gallery\, located in the heart of the Wynwood Arts District\, will showcase new works by New Zealand based artist Henrietta Harris in a solo exhibition entitled “Second Best”. The opening reception will be held Saturday\, November 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. during Wynwood’s Second Saturday Art Walk. The exhibit will be on view from November 9 through November 20. \nHenrietta Harris is a New Zealand based artist who explores\, the human condition\, through a muted\, soft and weightless palette. The faces in her paintings are often of young subjects\, with gleaming eyes\, filled with a sense of hope and confusion. As a result\, her paintings\, as physical objects breathe life\, conveying all the vulnerabilities and truths that are deeply obvious in each frozen face that she has left for us to explore. \nIn her process Harris decides on each portrait as she primes the canvas. Her paintings although formal do not come from preliminary drawings or sketches\, but rather\, find their way into existence simply by an undetermined process\, where color meets the canvas. \nConsistent throughout her body of work\, including those in her newest solo exhibition “Second Best” Henrietta’s style and mission as a painter is that of a storyteller. Documenting and distorted faces and personalities are of particular curiosity to her mission. In her own words: my paintings represent a stream of consciousness. \nRobert Fontaine Gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm.
